We are starting the Finnish school sessions again in January after the pandemic break.
How to find us
Our premises by the Capel Salem are located on Market Road opposite Chapter Arts Centre. The church has parking for about eight cars inside the gated area, which is reserved for our use only, and there is parking on the roads nearby (be aware of the residents’ parking) and Chapter Arts Centre car park. The Harvey Street Pay and Display Car Park just around the corner is free for up to two hours (make sure you take a ticket).
There is a bus stop on Cowbridge Road East (called Canton Police Station or Chapter Arts), two minutes’ walk from the church. Bus service numbers 17 and 18 from Cardiff city centre leave every five minutes, and the bus journey takes about ten minutes.
About the school
The Finnish School in Cardiff is a non-profit charity supported by the Finnish Ministry of Education and Culture. We provide play-based Finnish-speaking tuition for children and Finnish language classes for adult learners. The classes are open to anyone interested in the Finnish language or culture.
If you are new and want to join the school, please contact us or come talk to us at the school. We will open doors at 9 am to organise the rooms. The school’s Facebook page (Cardiffin Suomi-koulu) is updated with information, including any forthcoming social events. We also have a WhatsApp group (SK Suunnittelu) for planning events, meetings and other school business, please let us know if you would like to join this group, or the group for parents.
Fees
The fees are £20/child for the term or £5/session. We aim to keep the lessons affordable for all, so only the first child pays the full price, and any siblings pay half price.
School dates for spring/summer 2023
The school is open on the following Saturdays; classes are held between 9.30 am and 11.30 am with a break in between lessons. During the break you can, for a small donation, buy a cup of tea, coffee or juice and biscuits or cake and savoury snacks.
