We will be recycling Finnish language books at the first Finnish Saturday School of the autumn term on the 16th September. Feel free to bring any books and magazines you no longer need and help yourself to some new ones!

Järjestämme 29. tammikuuta Cardiffin keskustassa Bilingual Cake-tapahtuman kaksikielisten ja monikielisten lasten vanhemmille.

Monikielisyystaituri Soile Pietikäinen Lontoosta tulee luennoimaan lasten vanhemmille monikielisyyskasvatuksen metodeista, strategioista ja ideoista. Soilen Bilingual Potential-sivuilla ja viestin alaosan esitteissä on lisätietoa tapahtuman kulusta ja esiintyjästä.

Myymme ensi Suomi-koulussa14.1.  lippuja tapahtumaan (£10/henkilö), jonka jälkeen liput tulevat myyntiin myös muulle yleisölle ja muiden vähemmistökielten edustajille. Lippuja on vain rajoitettu määrä joten jos haluat tulla tapahtumaan mutta et pääse Suomi-kouluun ostamaan lippua, ota meihin pikaisesti yhteyttä.

Luento pidetään englanniksi ja avoin vain lasten vanhemmille. Tiloissa ei ole ikävä kyllä mahdollisuutta lastenhoitoon.

We will be hosting an event for bilingual and multilingual children’s parents in the Cardiff city centre on the 29th January. The engaging talk by Soile Pietikäinen will include ideas, methods and strategies for parents whose children could potentially speak two or more first languages. Bilingual Cake is based on top picks from academic research, as well as Soile’s 15 years of trilingual parenting experience and community work with bilingual families.

The tickets cost £10 per person and the event is sponsored by the Finnish Saturday School in Cardiff. You can purchase tickets at the school on the 14th January or by contacting one of us directly.

Tule mukaan kierrättämään Suomi-yhteisömme hyväksi!

Ensi kerralla Suomi-koulussa 15.10. kierrätämme tarpeettomia tai pieneksi jääneitä lastenvaatteita. Tuo omat, hyväkuntoiset lastenvaatteesi ja hae tilalle uusia. Tilaisuus järjestetään Suomi-koulun hyväksi. Voit jättää 50 penceä-2 puntaa/vaate keräyskuppiin mielesi mukaan.

Vaatteet voi tuoda ison salin korkealle tasolle lajiteltuina iän mukaan. Tuon myös rekkitangon ja henkareita takeille ja muille vaatteille.

Vaatteiden esillelaitto ja päivän päätteeksi myymättömien vaatteiden haku on lahjoittajan vastuulla. Kirkolle jätetyt vaatteet viedään keräyslaatikkoon.

We will be recycling children’s clothes during the next Saturday school on the 15th October. Bring your unwanted good quality children’s clothes or pop over to grab a bargain! The clothes will be available in the big hall and any profits will go towards the school. The clothes are priced at 50p-£2/item.

TERVETULOA to the sixth year of the Finnish Saturday School in Cardiff! We’ve got new, qualified teachers for the two children’s groups and a whole lot of exciting events happening this year!

Our premises by the Capel Salem are located on Market Road opposite Chapter Arts Centre. The church has got parking for about 8 cars inside the gated area, which is reserved for our use only and there is parking on the roads nearby (be aware of the residents’ parking) and Chapter Arts Centre car park. There is a bus stop on Cowbridge Road East (called Canton Police Station or Chapter Arts), two minutes’ walk from the church. Bus service numbers 17 and 18 from Cardiff city centre leave every five minutes and the bus journey takes about ten minutes.

Lessons last from 10.30am until 12.30pm with a 15 minute break at around 11.30am. Due to security reasons we close the doors at 10.30am – please ring the doorbell or call/text your teacher if you’re running late. During the break you can, for a small donation, buy a cup of tea, coffee or juice and biscuits or cake. We also have Finnish sweets for sale. Our library has Finnish language children’s books and DVDs available to take home.

The school’s Facebook page (Cardiffin Suomi-koulu) is also kept up to date with information including any forthcoming social events.
